    Of Lissington, County Lincoln, yeoman. Buried at Wickenby 25th December 1647; will dated 6 November 1647 proved by his son Rowland Curtis (probably forefather of the Branston Curtois family) the executor. Mentions his sisters children and 'son in law Coppie'. Issue four sons and two daughters mentioned in 1647. Of Wickenby in 1647.

    Married at Lissington 24 November 1615, Susanna Smith. Apparantly dead in 1647.

    1. Richard Curtois, baptised 16 January 1616 and buried 17 January 1616.

    2. John Curtois, baptised 30 September 1617 and buried at Lissington 1 October 1617.

    4. William Curtis, devisee of part of college lease by will of his father in 1647. Baptised at Lissington 17 March 1620/1. Churchwarden of Lissington. Buried at Lissington 17 March 1681/2.

    5. Thomas Curtis, baptised at Lissington 21 March 1623/4; buried at Wickenby 6 November 1661. Legatee of 10/- from his father in 1647.
      Married, before 1647 ....., legatee of 10/- from her father in law in 1647.

    6. Rowland Curtois, youngest son. Baptised at Lissington 5 October 1626. Proved his fathers will in 1648. Residuary legatee of his father.

    7. Elizabeth Curtis, baptised at Lissington 6 March 1628/9, and buried there 9 March 1628/9.

    8. Mary Curtis, baptised 27 June 1630 at Lissington. Legatee of her father in 1647, when married.
      Married Robert Coppye, also a legatee of his father in law in 1647. Apparently the son of Joane Coppye, widow, of Canwick, who in her will dated 28 January 1657 mentions her youngest son Robert Coppy.

    9. Anne Curtis, baptised 25th March 1632/3. Legatee of her father in 1647, when unmarried. Possibly buried as Anne Benniworth at Lissington 18 June 1670.


  2. John Curtis

    of Lissington in 1647, eldest surviving son of John Curtis. Baptised at Lissington 19 November 1618. Devisee of lands at Lissington by will of his father, and part of the lease of College Farm held from Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and also of a lease at Kirkby Green and Willerton held from New College, Oxford. Buried at Lissington 11 November 1693, "Mr John Curtois" in the parish register. Will proved 26 January 1693/4.

    Married Margaret, daughter of.... Legatee of 10/- from her father in law in 1647.

    Issue four sons and four daughters:

    • John Curtis of Lissington, yeoman. Executor of his fathers will in 1693. Died 1695. Will dated 28 March 1695, proved 5 April 1695, mentions "bro. John Doughty", "cousin William Benniworth".

    • William Curtis, christened at Lissington 13 October 1641 [IGI]. A legatee of his father in 1693 and his brother Matthew in 1719.

    • Rev Matthew Curtois D.D., Vicar of West Hendred, christened at Lissington 1 January 1647 [IGI] and buried at west Hendred 14 June 1727. Seems to have been a naughty boy at College (here). A legatee of 20/- "to buy a ring" in his fathers will in 1693. Legatee of his brother John Curtis in 1695. Owned land at Steventon, Co. Berkshire,and at Noke, Co. Oxfordshire. His will, dated 16 January 1719, mentions his nephew Rowland Rausby, son of his sister Susanna Rausby, to whom he devises lands at Steventon and at Noke and lease of the grounds at Sparsholt Court. Also "my brother William Curtis", "my nephew Thomas Sandall the younger", "my nephew John Curtois, son of my brother Edmund", "the daughters of Rowland Rausby", "eldest daughter of Mr Thomas Sandall", "goddaughter Jane Butt, godson John Tubb the younger, goddaughter Jane Batt". His nephew Rowland Rausby was his executor, with his wife overseer.

      Married Alice Johnston, spinster, of Oxford. Living in 1719, legatee of her husbands will.

    • Susan Curtis, christened at Lissington 28 September 1651 [IGI]. A legatee in 1693 and 1695.

      ?Married at Lissington 19 June 1673, Joseph Chauncey.

    • Grace Curtis, baptised at Lissngton 14 December 1656 [IGI].

    • Margaret Curtis, christened at Lissington 16 January 1658 [IGI]. A legatee of her father in 1693 and of her brother John in 1695.

      Married John Doughty. Called son-in-law in will of John Curtis in 1693, and also legatee of his brother-in-law John in 1695.


  3. Edmund Curtis

    Of Hawstead in the parish of Stixwold; legatee of his father in 1693 and his brother John in 1695. Apparently christened at Lissington 15 November 1649 [IGI], and died 1720; will dated 23 March 1719/20 proved 12 May 1720.

    1. At Lissington 20 June 1671, Elizabeth Brumbe. She died 1690.

    2. Mary Gibbons, widow of Anthony Gibbons of Stixwold (?born as Chatterton?). Legatee of Lawrence Chatterton of Stixwold 4 September 1707; will dated 24 December 1722 proved by her son Anthony Gibbons the executor.

    Issue one son and four daughters:

    • John Curtois, legatee of his grandfather John Curtis in 1693, and of his uncle John Curtis in 1695 and of his uncle Rev Edmund Curtois in 1719. Apparently baptised at Lissington 12 September 1672, "son of Edmund and Elizabeth".

    • Mary Curtis, legatee of her uncle John Curtois in 1695 ("bro. Edmund and his little daughter £10"). Legatee of her father in 1719/20, then Mary Richardson ("and £10 left her by my brother John").
