John Roden

Apparently born at Shifnal, Shropshire, about 1743, and baptised there 21 July 1743, son of John and Alice Roden. Died 26 September 1816 at Shifnal, Shropshire.

DIED On Wednesday se'nnight, at Shiffnall, in the 73d year of his age, Mr. John Roden, lately of Greatford, and many years in the household of the Queen. Stamford Mercury, Friday 4 October 1816

Never married, but left an interesting will containing many family legacies, including to his nephews John, Thomas and William from Lincolnshire. In 1815 he was 'late of Windsor but now of Greatford'; in 1816 he was 'late of Greatford but now of Shifnal'. I rather suspect that at some point he had helped the Willis family with the King....
