The Late Miss Dering Curtois
Impressive services at Branston and Missendon
A service was held at Little Missendon on 10 October at 2.45 pm. It was taken by the vicar, assisted by the Rev H. Curtois, formerly vicar of Croxton and Thedford who read the lesson. It was largely attended, for she had taken a deep interest in the social life of the place, and was much loved by many friends. The service was choral, and 'O rest in the Lord' was played as the mourners, who included most of the members of the family, left the church.
The internment took place the next day at Branston cemetary. The service in this church was also choral. It was taken by the rector, assisted by the Rev A. Curtois of Lincoln, who took the commital at the graveside. The service at Branston was also attended by many friends, including those from Washingborough, where she was also well known. A muffled peal was rung on the bells of Washingborough church the same evening. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by relations and friends, the Forum Club, london, the Art Union, Lincoln, and many others.
The late Miss Curtois- The parishioners of Washingborough heard with great regret of the passing of Miss Dering Curtois, who together with the family of the late Rev Atwell Curtois had been connected with the village for over fifty years. Although she had not spent so much of her time in the village for the past few years, her visits were always welcomed, and her bright interesting addresses were greatly appreciated by the members of the Womens Institute, who were represented at the funeral on Thursday afternoon. As a token of esteem a half muffled peal was rung on Thursday evening.
